The first morning of the first day of school is a special kind of special. There are a lot of feelings happening, so we’re always looking for gentle ways to welcome kids into the classroom. Recently, we put together a set of back to school coloring pages for kids who just want to come in and be alone with their new crayons for a bit.
I was that kid. Quiet time plus new crayons? Yes, please.
COLOR BY CODE
We often set out coloring sheets for kids to work on while we’re getting everything (and everyone) situated. There’s nothing wrong with a simple coloring page, but we wanted a bumped-up choice for those go-getters who just can’t help themselves… even if it is just the first five minutes of the first day of first grade.
You know those kids. They dare to dream.
These back to school COLORING PAGES are skill-based, giving our brand new firsties a chance to show off what they learned back in kindergarten… you know, when they were little. (Their words, not mine.)

OTHER WAYS TO USE THE COLORING PAGES
Once we printed our sets, we started thinking… we don’t have to use these exclusively as back to school coloring pages. So, if you already have your first morning routine buttoned up, consider these fun ideas instead:
- Mail one or two coloring pages to your students before school starts, along with a special letter from you.
- Hand them out during your school’s Meet the Teacher event.
- Use them as bell ringers each morning of the first week of school.
- Offer them up as choices for Fast Finishers.
- Pair up the students, give them some dice, and turn it into a math activity for partners.

Happy teaching!
