Landform Models Kids Can Make

This photo shows a volcano landform made with Crayola's Air-Dry Clay and paint.

Crayola makes an AIR-DRY CLAY that's so easy to work with, it's perfect for making landform models with kids. The clay typically dries in about 48 hours and then it can be finished with acrylic paints. According to Crayola's directions, the hardened clay can even be carved, although we haven't tried that. Sounds cool though! I've always been a teacher who believes art should be an integral part … [Read more...]

Activities for Landforms

Landforms ideas for second grade teachers.

Planning children's activities for landforms is a fun and creative process. I don't recall learning about landforms when I was a kid though. I grew up in Florida near the beach, occasionally paddled a canoe down a nearby river, and spent quite a few fall holidays on a cattle ranch I guess some people might call a plain. The funny thing is, I wasn't even looking for it. Frankly, I never even thought about it. Instead, it found me. It started when I was writing lessons for National Bubble Gum Day. (Yes, that's a thing.) For … [Read more...]

Famous Inventors: Biographies for Kids

Famous Inventors

In my last post, I wrote that we'd take a look at some amazing children's books about inventions, but then I decided to go with famous inventors first. To me, it makes more sense to talk about the identity we create when we live a curious life before we talk about the outcome of such a life. People who are curious observe the world. They ask a lot of questions and tend to notice problems. Often, … [Read more...]
