Summer Picture Books – Our Top Ten (Or So)

It’s time to gather all your favorite summer picture books! We love summer. These are long, lazy-ish days for lots of adventures before the sun goes down… and even then, who can resist sitting outside watching fireflies blink on and off? It’s just a special time of year.

My own kids are now young adults, but when they were little, a perfect summer day meant sleeping in, making chocolate chip pancakes, spending the day in the pool, and then squeezing together on the couch to read a few of our favorite books while the thunderstorms went through.

If you’re looking for a few new books to check out at your local library, take a look at this list before you go. We’ve included some of our favorite summer picture books on it, but honestly, any book will do… just keep reading!

SUMMER PICTURE BOOKS FOR KIDS

I have way more than 10 to share. Chances are, your librarian does, too. If you can’t find some of the titles on this list, ask the media specialist for some recommendations.

In our library, there’s always a seasonal display of books, so you shouldn’t have too much trouble finding some books your kids will love.

STAYING SHARP OVER THE SUMMER

Reading summer picture books is one way to promote literacy growth during the long break from school. If you need to, add more depth by picking up some extra summer work to do during periods of down time. This SUMMER WORKBOOK is ready to print and use!👇

If you want some simple MATH GAMES to play with your kids, check these out.👇 Each game is on one page and uses common game pieces found in most primary classrooms.

Not at school right now? No worries. You can substitute these school tools with items from your pantry, like dried beans or cereal pieces. Any small item can become a counter.

Until next time, happy summer!
